Lhotse South Face

Description

The south face of Lhotse seen from the Imja Khola Valley on a clear, November afternoon. Lhotse (8516m) is the 4th highest mountain on Earth and this face has been one of the biggest challenges of the mountaineering. Some famous climbers of the eighties were trying to conquer this wall. Three Polish mountaineers have died here, including Jerzy Kukuczka, the second man to summit all 14 eight-thousanders. The photo was taken from a place above Dingboche in the Imja Khola Valley. The main summit as well as Lhotse Middle and Lhotse Shar are seen. Shartse is on the right-hand side of the photo. Sagarmatha National Park, Everest Region, Solukhumbu, Nepal.
